Family offices completed 342 company transactions worth $68.3 billion in disclosed round capital in the third quarter, according to FINTRX's Q3 2026 Family Office Investment Activity Report. The report, published Oct. 15, tracked 178 family offices that invested in companies, real estate or both between July and September. It separately counted 23 real estate transactions totaling $2.41 billion.
Of the 342 company transactions, 262 disclosed a round size; the average was $260.7 million against a median of $34.5 million, a spread the report attributes to a handful of very large raises. The report cites four raises as pulling the total up: Blue Origin at $10 billion with Bezos Expeditions, Vodafone at $5.9 billion with NJJ Holding, Databricks at $5 billion and Mistral AI at $3.5 billion.
Technology carried the quarter. Pure technology accounted for 69 transactions, and tech-enabled deals in financial services, industrials, energy and public services added 71 more. Financial services was the next largest standalone sector, at 43 transactions, the bulk of them RIA acquisitions. Defense and advanced manufacturing produced several billion-dollar rounds, including Helsing at $1.8 billion, Hadrian Automation at $1.37 billion and Quantum Systems at $1.2 billion. By stage, Series A led with 64 transactions, ahead of acquisitions at 49 and seed at 43, while the largest dollar amounts came in Series D and later rounds.
a16z Perennial topped the activity ranking with 56 transactions, which the report describes as five times as many as any other family office. That is roughly one in six of the quarter's 342 company transactions. It also took part in 9 of the quarter's 15 largest rounds. Wealth Enhancement Advisory Services ranked second with 11 deals, all RIA acquisitions, and YZi Labs, which the report identifies as the CZ Family Office, completed 10, mostly early-stage crypto and blockchain investments. ICONIQ Capital Family Office, Bezos Expeditions, Thiel Capital and Foris Ventures rounded out the most active group.
Pontegadea Investments, the Amancio Ortega family office, made the quarter's largest property purchase, acquiring Capital 8 in London for $912 million. That one deal was more than a third of the $2.41 billion disclosed across the 23 real estate transactions. Office deals accounted for $1.82 billion across nine transactions, while multi-family led on count with 10, six of them at undisclosed prices. Seventy-eight percent of the 23 deals were US-based.
Series A's lead repeats the pattern this publication reported from FINTRX's prior data in August, when Series A led with 20 deals while acquisitions slipped to 12 from 18.
What the real estate total leaves out
Six of the ten multi-family transactions had no disclosed price, so the $2.41 billion figure understates the quarter's property activity by whatever those six deals were worth.
